The domestic smartphone maker Micromax recently expanded its Canvas Doodle range of Android phablets with the launch of the Canvas Doodle 4. As its name suggests, it is the fourth smartphone in the Canvas Doodle series after the Canvas Doodle, Canvas Doodle 2, and Canvas Doodle 3. The brand originally launched the Canvas Doodle series in 2013 to compete against the Korean tech giant Samsung’s Note series of Android phablets.

Design and Display
The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 sports a premium full aluminium body with a waistline of 8.9 mm, and it weighs 220 grams. The Canvas Doodle 4 on the other hand has a plastic, yet sturdy build. It is slightly slimmer than the Doodle 2, as it measures 8.5mm around the waist. So on the design front, both devices have their own appearance. On the display front, the Canvas Doodle 2 houses a 5.7-inch HD display, while the Canvas Doodle 4 sports a larger 6-inch qHD screen.
The Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 arrived with a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589, which is further supported by 1GB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX 544 GPU. The Micromax Canvas Doodle 4 is among few of the budget Android smartphones that run the latest Android Lollipop out of the box. The Canvas Doodle 2 on the other hand runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and there’s no word it will be getting the Android Lollipop update. On the software front, the Canvas Doodle 4 is clearly a winner since it has all the latest software tweaks of the Android Lollipop.
The Canvas Doodle 4 sports an 8MP autofocus rear camera with an LED flash and a 2MP front shooter for selfies. The Canvas Doodle 2 on the other hand sports a better 12MP rear camera with full HD video recording support, autofocus, and an LED flash. It also has a 5MP front-facing snapper for video calling and selfies. So, the Canvas Doodle 2 clearly offers better photography experience than the Doodle 4.
Connectivity and Battery
In terms of connectivity, the Canvas Doodle 2 and Canvas Doodle 4, both offer similar options including dual-SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Talking about the battery, the Canvas Doodle 2 is fuelled by a 2,600mAh unit that delivers eight hours of talk time. The Canvas Doodle 4 is backed by a 3,000mAh battery that provides 10 hours of talk time.
The Micromax Canvas Doodle 4 certainly offers a larger display, a bigger battery, and the latest software features, compared to the Canvas Doodle 2. However, the Canvas Doodle 2 still wins over the successor with its higher internal memory and better camera specifications. Though the Doodle 2 has a slightly smaller screen size, but it comes bundled with a stylus pen, which is nowhere to be found in the Canvas Doodle 4. As for the pricing, the Doodle 4 has been priced at Rs 9,499, while the Canvas Doodle 2 is currently retailing for around Rs 12,500, so choice is yours.
